Before I start, some definitions:

Back Yard Breeder: Any person(s) perpetuating the poor quality pure bred "pet" producing puppies that are not of a higher quality than the breeding pair that does not test for genetic disease or disorder or pursue a general improvement of the breed for the purpose of fun or profit.

Responsible Breeder: A person who breeds for the betterment of the breed, who tests for genetic disorder and disease and strives to reduce it's occurence through careful selective breeding producing puppies of a higher quality than the breeding pair for the purpose of improving the breed.

I finally got Earl to the Petco's cat adoption cage in Denton, Texas. It's not with the other adoption cages, so he should be calm. As I was getting him and his paperwork ready, I chated to a man with a four week pit bull at the check out. When I was about to tell him about the low-cost neuter and vaccination place, he said he his puppy was going to breed with the female he already had {my blood pressure spikes}. I did manage to mention that there are a lot of dogs out there...

Thumbnail history of Earl's 3+ years on this earth:
Before 2000 - he was a stray in a rough South Dallas neighborhood. A BB-pellet was removed later on.
2000 - A concerned man took him into his house. On New Year's Eve that year, a break-in robber would shoot him dead. At least two of the fifteen cats would later be put down for feline leukemia. :(
I pulled Earl out of the dungeon known as the Dallas City Pound in January 2001. I pulled six cats. Two were put down due to leukemia, two were feral TNR. Earl and a calico was adopted.
For the next 2.5 years, Earl was part of a busy North Dallas family that gave him everything but attention. They had children, got a dog. Against my wishes, they not only declawed, it was a four-paw procedure. The once easy-going and socialble Earl now has fits when any cat is near him. :(
Two months later, Earl finally learns to socialize with people again and is in the adoption cage.

So here I am at Petco, talking to a proud backyard breeder, while I'm trying to rehome one of his victims - Earl. This is strong language, but he is into animal abuse for profit if you think about it. :madfire:
