Quick introduction of myself....

My name is Nicole and I have 2 dogs and 3 cats. I am an "animal nut" according to friends and family, so I hope I fit in well here :)

The member 70Monte355 told me about this board, she's a long-time friend.

Ok, sorry to be so brief, but I have a serious problem on my hands. I took in a foster cat awhile back to let her have kittens in a good home instead of being put down for being "unadoptable" because she was a feral cat AND pregnant.

Long story short, the town bailed on me and I had to adopt out the kittens myself, adopt the momma cat into my group, and have her spayed and given vaccines.

But $$ is terribly tight right now, so I was only able to afford Distemper and Rabies for now.

She came in today seeming fine (my cats are indoor/outdoor). Shortly after coming in, she vomited, but cats do that sometimes, so I wasn't alarmed. Until about an hour later when she came out of my bedroom squinting her eyes like they hurt her. I called the vet and they said she had probably just gotten an irritant in her eyes, and to call back if any redness, swelling, or oozing happened. Later this afternoon, she vomited again. She also began to become lethargic. A few hours ago, I put her in my bed with some soft kitty blankets so she could have some peace and quiet to sleep in away from the dogs and cats who can be a bit playful at night with eachother. Now she has vomited again, and is more lethargic than I've ever seen a cat! (And I have had ALOT of cats in my time!)

I guess my question is basically if this sounds like anything anyone has encountered... her eyes seem to pain her to open, but show no sign of a problem, she is vomiting, and lethargic. I want to take her to the animal ER here, but I honestly just don't have the $$ to do it. But I am beginning to get scared she won't make it through the night, as quickly as she is deteriorating. After saving this poor sweet stray from the needle, I can'r bear to lose her now!

Help??

Thank you for visiting Talkpets! I'm not sure what is going on with your poor momcat.

Please click the links and change it to the neighborhood your live. Hopefully your cat will make it thru the night and one of the vets can work with you on the bills.

I went to the Yahoo Yellow Pages and here is the list for emergency vet services in the Sacramento area. (http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypResults.py?Pyt=Typ&city=Sacramento&state=CA&country=us&msa=6920&slt=38.581360&sln=-121.493042&cs=4&tab=B2C&stx=95892128&stp=y&desc=Veterinary+Emergency+Services&doprox=1&sorttype=distance&beyond=1&stat=ClkByndLower) Some of these will probably be open this weekend. You can easily click to get more, zero in to get a list starting from your address. Phone numbers and maps of each vet are included. This is another list of general vets in your area (http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypResults.py?&&city=Sacramento&state=CA&country=us&msa=6920&slt=38.581360&sln=-121.493042&cs=4&stp=y&stx=8120307)

I just did something on the fly and pasted a couple of good links, but were in a different part of the counry. Just put in you Zip Code and the list will have your local vets and phone numbers.

Even if I had an idea of what's wrong, I'm wondering if the best that can be done is to sleep with the cat so it won't choke, then get it to the vet.

Well thank you for your replies! I actually have to ER vets #s on hand at all times, but like I said, $ is just so tight I couldn't afford to take her there.

But there is good news this morning! She is definatly feeling better! She nibbled a tiny bit of food in the night and kept it down. This morning she is much happier, and not lethargic at all. In fact, she has been following me around the house talking to me and begging for some petting. I can tell she still feels sluggish, and not 100%, so I will keep her indoors for a few days to make sure she's ok and doens't over-do it.

I am so relieved!!!!! My little Lobster Kitty is gonna live!!!:p

Hi I'm Beth. Now, I'm no doctor but....from what i saw in your post, your cat may be having afterbirth or something if she recently had the kittens (past few days and/or maybe week or 2) one of my "stray" cats just had 5 kittens, and she was sick a bit afterward too. I'd advise you to simply call or drop by (no need to bring your cat unless told so by vet) and explain whats happening to the vet (if possible) and he/she may know something to give her without seeing her, but only drop by (or call) if the problem persists much longer. She may have some kind of infection or something that came after giving birth, causing her to vomit. Hope your kitty gets better ;) !

Oh, no no no, lol! Sorry for the confusion, but she had her kittens long ago. I'd say a good 3-4 months ago is when she gave birth.

Anyways, she is doing much better now. She has been acting fine and haven't seen anymore vomiting in 2 days now. I don't know if she had a virus, or maybe got into something poisoned. Either way, I am just glad she's ok now!
