This is a story of a cat I rehomed. Both he and his caretaker are very happy to be together.
Mr. Socks was born Pepe la Purr in an Arlington cattery on April 4, 1989 - a pedgreed Tuxedo Persian. His third caretaker gave him to me when he was ten. While there was not hard evidence, he seem to suffer from neglect. If you look at his left ear, you will note it is bent. Sometimes cats have vessels burst in their ears. The reconstructive surgery did not straighten the ear. A possible cause was failure to clean his ears.
Mr. Socks was constantly wanting attention. Unfortunately, I had four other cats. My two other Persians, Spencer and Ms Vicky got into fights all the time. There was a lot of terratorial spraying between them. This went on for 2.5 years.
A friend at a retirement center had a neighbor that just lost here Maine Coon of many years. I offered to let her have Mr. Socks and it was the beginning of a wonderful relationship. Not once did he spray or misbehave in any way with Carol. That was two years ago this month. He has absoultely been pampered. This must be the best time of his 14 years. The vet says Mr. Socks is in good health with no known problems. Carol just went through a difficult period of successful chemothearpy that eliminated the cancer, but it was not easy. Her absence at times was not easy on Mr. Socks.
I renamed him Mr. Socks because he expected royal treatment like he was First Cat. Like Socks Clinton, he is a tuxedo.
I wish Carol had internet access. Patty would love to talk to Carol, including about football. :D (http://www.packers.com/)
Many rehomings don't work out, so it's very nice that this one worked so well.
