I am new here and need some suggestions please. I have a new kitten that I rescued from a shelter. She is 6 weeks old. I recently took her to the vet for a check up. All was fine. She did say that my kitten may get an upper respiratory infection due to the fact that she came from a shelter. The day after the appt my kitten, whose name is Chloe by the way, developed what appeared to be a "wet eye." Today, I looked closer and the bottom corner part has a film of puslike stuff, but there seems to be a tiny bubble too. Could it be that something got stuck in there, like her litter?? She is eating and going to the bathroom just fine, but she is not as playful and sleeps a lot more. I am calling the vet in the AM, but just wondered if anybody has any idea as to what this could be. The area around it is very sensitive and she is not happy when I try and touch around it. Thanks for any advice and help! I will post some pics as soon as I get them!!

Welcome to Talkpets! I'm happy to hear you chose a shelter cat - there are many good ones there.

It's good your kitten is going to the vet in the morning. One of my cats caught a coronavirus from a kitten. With intensive treatment over six weeks, Garbo did not lose her eye. I hope it's nothing that bad. I'd think the vet would have caught it the first time, so let's hope it's nothing real bad.

Garbo had several different medications of antibotics and ointments.

Adorable cats!!!

This morning, Chloe's eye looked like nothing was wrong with it. Quite odd. I am assuming there was something stuck in it. She is playing more than ever and is going crazy on me! I am going to keep a close eye one it and the first sign that it's looking funny, I'm calling the vet. Thanks for the advice though!! I don't want to mess around with anything and have it only get worse.

Cats are like guys: by the time they are clearly unwell, they have had it for awhile. It's good to hear the thumbs-up from the vet concerning Chloe. In general, if the kitten is active, eats normally, has brown stools, fur looks good and eyes looks good then your kitten is healthy. Otherwise, it's a possible sign of problems.

We have a couple of different ways to view everybody's pets here. The Album link on the home page is one. The picture uploader is another link that allows your pictures to be included in your posts. If you would like help later in the week for a signature or avitar, let me know when you get the pictures.

Welcome Melsyboo! I hope Chloe gets all better real soon!

She is an adorable kitten! I have a calico kitten, named Abby--I'll try to get pics up of her in the next week--they look "similar"!

My new kitten (which I got from the local animal shelter last weekend) looks like he has a BAD eye infection. It is extremely swollen and pus-like discharge comes out constantly. I am terrified that he will lose the vision in his eye. I plan on going to the vet tomorrow morning. I took it back to the shelter for his follow up antibiotic (Upper Respitory Infection) and all they said was that the URI affects the eye too. I looks terrible! I need some advice on what to do until tomorrow. thanks

I was so scared when my kitten had an eye infection too. Mine turned out to just be something stuck in her eye and it resolved itself overnight. I did buy some eye wipes from the pet store. I just wiped away the pus and sticky stuff to keep it clean. The vet also told me the same thing about having upper respiratory infections that also affect the eyes. It's good that you're going to to the vet. Just try to keep the eye clean and make sure the kitten is eating. I'm sure the vet will get it under control asap. Good luck!

I am soooo scared now!! I have been crying all weekend. My kittens eye is soo much worse. Now, his inner eyelids are completely swollen shut. We have an e-coller on him but somehow, between putting it on, he scratched his eye and blood was everywhere! I don't know what to do. We are taking him to the vet again today but it's costing us a lot of money we don't have.

All I can say is getting the kitty to the doctor is the best thing. An Elizabethian collar that would prevent scratching might help. I will pray for a good outcome.
