MSNBC story (http://www.msnbc.com/news/963396.asp) - As people are getting fat, so are their pets. Diabetis is rocketing in both people AND their pets. A friend of mine had her nine-year old cat as an inpatient for diabetis. Fortunately, it's under control, but daily shots at one time looked like a necessity. He has gone from 22 to 15 pounds. Of my five cats, one of them is probably more obese than that. Another is fat.
Leaving food out all the time is a contributing factor to feline fattness. While being indoors-only is much safer, roaming really burns the calories.
If you have a cat needing to lose weight, it is dangerous to do it rapidly.
