Well, here is the story,
A stray cat started to come visit me for food awhile back.
I fed him and the more I fed him the more he came around, and the more he came around the more I fell in love with him and he eventually made his way to be my new cat.
We kept him for a week or so before we took him to the vet. Needless to say my other three cats weren't to happy so I tried to keep them sepearate.
He seemed real healthy and happy, but imagin how my heart sank when the vet said " His FIV test came out positive."
She gave us two choices, put him to sleep or keep him and risk him giving it to the other three cats.
I couldn't put him to sleep so I'm taking the big risk.
The vet said he might not even make it though his neutering :(.
She also said the only way it can be transmitted is by mating and fighting but she isn't the brightest vet in the world so I'm still worried she is wrong.
So If anyone knows anything about feline aids or has advice on how I might help him live longer or on how to get him not to fight with my other cats (well he doesn't seem to even notice them so it is actually vice-versa) please tell me.

Unless he is a biter, the other cats are NOT at RISK!

The only effective, possibly the only way he is going to infect the other cats is a deep bite. The FIV virus outside the body is fragile, like the human aids virus. So the risk of infection from sharing food, water, and the litter box is almost none.

I have heard stories of people with non-agressive FIV+ cats living for years with healthy cats.

Tonight I will get some links, but they will tell you what this post says - if he does not bite he's no threat.

Thanks so much for your help.
You've made me feel a little better about this.
No he isn't bitter ( knock on wood) but my other cats as I said aren't too happy about it.
I they get it if they attacked him do you know? ( I don't think they would that bad but... to be safe.)

He has to bite one of your three healthy cats deep to transmit the disease. Even if he does, the attacked cat may not get it.

Spencer was bit by a stray (Trevor) that was positive, but two months later, the test cleared Spencer of having the FIV virus. Trevor was positive, but did not have FIV (feline aids). He had a good coat and he was fat. :D

UPDATE:
He is due for his neutering tomorrow.
I'm taking him early in the morning so I can take him back home at night.
Oh! Did I ever mention his name?
His name is Sugar.

He's been neutered!
He didn't eat since 7:30pm yesterday and they said not to feed him till' 6:00 pm today.
He was going nuts!
He even took off with aloaf of bread! (still in the bag)
He seems to be doing fine now that he had some food.
They said that his white blood cells were low though :(

He's doing good.
He and one of my other cats still have a few things to work out but so far so good.:)

6 cats, that is one of the best avitars at TalkPets!

Obviously it's great eye-candy. What is less obvious and just as cool is at under 8K it's fast-loading. Good hikers and webmasters like to pack light.

Good choice if you snagged it - nice work if it's homemade!

Shadow...I am very glad he is going good. That's wonderful!! Those strays just grab your heart, don't they.

SpencerTheLion......Thanks so much!!! I didn't make it...I wish I could do something like that, but not very good with computers.
I got it from a web site that you can down load those for free.

If you can tell us the link, that would be cool!

Very frequently people take images and articles without permission in violation of copyright laws. Since you said the image was public domain, we don't have to worry!

Yeah, Shadow, I got a few of those too. If you don't love them, who will?
