Hi cat lovers,

I'm a first time cat owner, recently i've noticed that my cat maloo has exceptionally wetter right eye which causes her eye half open pretty often (it's actually quite cute). There are also eye wax as well. I don't know if it's normal to have wetter eye, but her left eye sure doens't look like it.

I'm wonder if there's a problem with her eye and i should take her to medic? I want to know if this sympton is pretty common or not, and I can possibly read it online or in the book before I take her to the doctor. I don't have access to book store right now, but once I do i will definately go check it out in the store, but before that, if someone can point out a web site where they have those infomation provided for me to read, it will be grreatly appreciated!

She's a little bit over a year old.

Thanks!

David

Welcome to TalkPets!

You need to get the cat to a vet right away! It could be a virus, but the cat has looked unwell for awhile, meaning there is a good chance this could be serious.

At the very least, contact a local rescue to see if they have ideas, but it's much better to see a vet and if necessary discuss payment plans.

:( I don't know this could be that serious, I've just contacted local pet emergency service, the lady told me it could be anything including irritation. I was told to keep an eye on her and go to regular vet service tomorrow. I really hope it's just irritations.

Thanks for the response!

I can't say what is going on. Sometimes it's caused by upper respiratory infection (URI) or another type of virus.

Three years ago, Garbo (picture in the sig below), got a coronavirus. She was less active, but I waited until it was almost too late. It turned out she had a BB-sized ulcer that was about to rupture her cornea and permanently blind that eye. Scary indeed. Over the next six weeks Garbo was on six different medications daily. She needed something at at least every three hours. On work days I had to drop her off at the vet so she could get treated. She healed, but it was so close.

Cats, like many men, don't let on they are ill until it's pretty serious. It's important to notice changes in appearance and behavior.

Rescues are familiar with the ointment Terramycin. It was used on Garbo. You might get lucky and find a local rescue and talk with someone confident they know what is going on and recommend something like that.

Terramycin might be available at a local pet store.

Hello!

I took my cat right away to the vet, and it turned out to be just a normal eye infection. He gave me this eye gel calls "Neo-Poly-Bac W/HC" that contains neomycin, plymyxin B sulfates, etc.

After a week or so her eye's a lot better now :) Thanks spencer for your reply. I really appreciate it !
