I'm one month into being a new Mom! Just adopted a 2 yr. old female from a rescue group. She is so sweet, but still adjusting to her new and final home. And she wasn't the only one that needed to adjust. Boy have things changed since I last owned a cat (5 yrs)! So many products out there, it boggled my mind. My greatest challenge, the kitty box. I almost bought one of those fancy new electric boxes, then decided against it thanks to opinions posted on the web. So, I opted to stick with good old fashioned scooping. Ok, so Ms. Outdated here got herself busy and tackled the challenge to learn litter boxes all over again. I discovered a win win on litter tracking thanks to combining and old trick with a new product. After tons of reading and shopping I got one of those litter mats where the litter falls into a tray. I combined it with that fake grass stuff you get in hardware stores. It's amazing how much the matt catches, but the fake grass finishes the job. I can count the crumbs on one hand that make it beyond my catch points. Ok, so one down. But the choice of litter still has me stumped. I could use some help on that one. I prefer clumping type, so that eliminates a ton of products. Clay was the optimum litter with my last cat, but now is getting bad press. I started with one of those grain type litters, and it failed my odor control test. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention product names on this site, so I'll describe that I'm currently using a product that's wood center core coated with clay. It's working great, but it still has some clay. I think the most serious concern with the clay is the cat licking it off them when cleaning. I've done my best to have her walking away clean. Should I still continue to shop? Any suggestions?

Hi Snickerdoodle,

Congrats on the new cat!

There is no problem mentioning products by brand name here...just so long as you aren't advertising them.

Welcome! :fatcat:

In response to her name, it's Snickers, but I affectionally call her my little Snicker Doodle. Her name has a lot of meaning. She was found under a snack shack at a church, and was 10 months old at the time. No one knows how long she had been out there or how she got there, but was found tramatized and afraid. She finally mustered enough trust to let them rescure her off the streets. The rescue Mom named her Shack because of the Snack Shack being her haven. When I adopted her, she quickly warmed up to me and I found her to be very sweet, so I started calling her Snicker's. I figured it still related to her Snack Shack beginnings. In just a week, she took a liking to the name and comes or answers when she's called. I hope to help her forget she was ever cold or hungry. And by the way, I'm also a dog lover. I recently lost my little Yogi Bear. He was an all chocolate Cocker Spaniel. Funny, but candy seems to a pattern here...wonder if the man upstairs is trying to tell me something?
