Advice On Unwell Budgie - Please Help Me!!!
Hi,
I have had my budgie for coming up to 11 years, and other then being a grumpy budgie we have had no problems with him. Recently, I noticed a couple of lumps forming under the bright red band (he had been banded as a baby) on his left foot. I was unsure what to do, or who to consult after a very unhelpful, and quite frankly uncaring, conversation with our vet. Since then the lumps have grown in size, the largest is about the size of a small marble (though not the same shape). They look and feel exactly like a large human tuck. They are above the claws, and have grown out from the leg. Last night, we noticed that the point just below the now very tight band was turning a shade of purple/black. We are not vastly knowledgable about budgies and were naturally concerned,. Worried that it was the pressure of the band that was causing this we removed the band from the budgie. Since then the budgie has spoken more than he has since the lumps appeared, he seems comfortable putting his full weight on both sides. He seemed a little shaken - but I assumed that was from the shock of being taken out of his cage (he's never liked to leave it, since we first got him at 6 months). He's been stretching a lot, we assume trying to get used to the released pressure. Whilst I am unsure of how tight a band should be, when we removed it it had cut into his skin and he bled a little. The bleeding quickly stopped. We have cleaned the cage, keep topping up the bath, water and food...he's in a darkish place should he need to sleep and the house is warm. I am unsure what to do. By removing the band, did we do the right thing, or have we released possible toxins into his blood stream? I would really appreciate your help. Feel free to email me with any more questions that I haven't answered, and I will try to answer them as best I can. Thank you. |

I'd suggest just taking it to the vet. Budgies are (from what I hear) prone to getting tumors.

You should fnd a bird-major vet. Most cat/dog vets don't know much about avain care. You should also find a avairy in your area, and check that ouy.
